Is studying in Canada considered a positive pathway toward immigration to Canada
Why would someone who is outside Canada with 10 to 15 years of work experience choose to study in Canada to eventually immigrate to Canada and not apply for permanent resident pathways directly?
Let’s be honest Express Entry is not what it used to be for a foreign national (FN) outside Canada. In 2018 someone with a score of 440 as a Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) could easily get an invitation to apply, but no-a-days this score will not even get you close to an Invitation To Apply (ITA). Then there is the Provincial Nomination Program (PNP) which is another Permanent Resident Pathway (PR) to come to Canada.
I would not deny that they do have lots of draws and the provinces are generous when it comes to offering nominations, but for most of the Provincial Nomination Programs (PNP), one of the minimum requirements is a have a job offer in Canada. Which first of all makes the amount of fraudulent job offers increase in numbers and secondly employers are not sure how long they will have to wait for someone to get a work permit to come to Canada and is reluctant to make a job offer for someone who is outside of Canada.
Lastly, most people outside of Canada are not aware of all the options to come to Canada and that Express Entry is not necessarily the best option anymore because most immigration companies still sell this as the best pathway and ask thousands of dollars to complete an express entry profile and 12 months later you still in the same position as you were a year ago. My clients know that I do not charge for express entry, but instead, I do a consultation where I will teach you how to do it yourself. I call it “the DIY EE program” Only when you get an official invitation I will take over and we can discuss terms because now we know your chances, right?

BUT LET’S GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL QUESTION WHY STUDY IN CANADA INSTEAD?
Number one – it gives you a chance to apply for a work permit when you graduate or for permanent residency.
Number Two – You are allowed to work while you study. Some student permits get issued with a Co-op work permit as working is part of the program, and yes, you do get paid on most practicum placements, and besides the practicum placements, you can also work anywhere for a number of hours that are allowed.
Number Three – If you have a spouse or independent child, they can accompany you to Canada. The spouse will receive an open work permit and the child’s study permit to attend public school.
Here is a video of a Family that came to Canada this way, keep your eyes open for the second version because she recently graduated, and we are busy applying for her PR.
MY ADVICE TO ALL OF YOU WHO DREAM OF MAKING CANADA YOUR PERMANENT HOME IS TO START WITH A TEMPORARY RESIDENT PATHWAY (TR) THAT WILL EVENTUALLY LEAD TO A PERMANENT RESIDENT PATHWAY (PR)
